UPSC Prelims 2024 postponed due to Lok Sabha Election
Election commission of India has declared the dates for Lok Sabha election 2024. The general election will be conducted in seven phases throughout the country. UPSC Prelims 2024 was earlier scheduled to be held on 26 May 2024. The preliminary examination was falling in the midst of the last two phases of Lok Sabha election. As a result, UPSC Prelims 2024 has now been postponed to 16 June 2024.
UPSC has now put out official statement regarding the postponement of the preliminary exam. Candidates have now got 2 more weeks for better preparation of UPSC Prelims 2024.
The 6th phase of general election will be conducted on 25 May 2024, a day before prelims (as per old schedule), in crucial states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Haryana and Delhi. While the last phase of the election will be held on 1 June 2024. Entire state administrative machinery will be focused on the smooth conduct of general election. Therefore, we told you on our YouTube Channel (@ExamsHub) that UPSC might postpone preliminary examination for couple of weeks if not more.
Several UPSC aspirants would have been busy due to election duty on polling day. If UPSC had not postponed the scheduled examination, tens of thousands of UPSC aspirants would not have been able to participate in the upcoming election. They would have to move on the polling day in order to reach the examination centre the next day. At a time when the Election Commission wants to maximize the participation of voters, the scheduled exam might had snatched “Right to Vote” from some.
