How to Prepare Physics for NEET?
NEET is a common entrance exam through which 15% of MBBS or BDS seats in various Medical/ Dental colleges of India is filled. CBSE conducts this exam every year in the first week of May. In 2016, more than 6 Lakh candidates appeared in this exam for approx 3000 MBBS seats in the country. That’s why it is considered one of the toughest exams of India. NEET Question paper consists of 45 question each from Chemistry and Physics and 90 questions of Biology. Let us see, how to prepare Physics for NEET?
Though only 45
questions of Physics are asked in NEET, but it plays vital role in determining
the rank in the Merit List. It has
been seen that students preparing for Medical are generally good in Biology and
Chemistry. Most of them face problems in Physics which ultimately affects their
rank. To a certain extent, poor Mathematics is also responsible for it. Hence,
students must not ignore Physics if they want to crack NEET. (Also Read: How to Prepare GK for AIIMS?)
In NEET, 45 questions
from Physics carry 180 Marks. 4 Marks are awarded
for each correct answer and 1 mark is
deducted for the incorrect one. It has been observed several times that a
student though qualified in NEET with the help of good marks in Biology and
Chemistry, failed to cross cut-off marks due to poor performance in Physics.
Why
Students face Problems in Physics?
Students who are good
in Mathematics mostly opt for the Engineering stream after passing Class 10 Board Exams. Those who are
poor in it are more likely to opt for Biology
or Arts stream. But in Medical
stream, though half of the questions are asked from Biology, other two subjects
like Chemistry and Physics play a vital role in determining rank. By avoiding,
one cannot succeed in Physics. If you are poor in Mathematics, it does not mean
you cannot excel in Physics. Most students simply avoid this subject, either
due to lack of interest or due to fear from derivations & numerical.
Just utilize your time properly. You are facing problems in this subject,
because you are running away from it. Learn to win over your fear, will surely
succeed in NEET or any other Medical entrance exams. (Also Read: How to Prepare Physics for Class 12 Board Exam?)
Can NEET be cracked without Physics?
As mentioned earlier,
by obtaining good marks in Biology and Chemistry, one can qualify in NEET but
it does not guarantee you a seat in any medical college of the country. Every
year more than 40,000 candidates qualify in this exam and only 15 percent of
them get seats in Medical colleges. If a student is excellent in other
two subjects, he must secure at least 80-100 marks in Physics to grab an MBBS
seat in the country through NEET. One should not expect to become a doctor in
India by securing just 15 or 35 out of 180 Marks in Physics.
How
to Prepare Physics for NEET?
Now you must have
understood that without Physics, it is tough to grab an MBBS seat in the
country. Then, let us see some tricks to study this subject.
1)
Start preparing Physics
for NEET from Class 11. Don’ run away from it and try to invest at least
couple of hours on this subject. Solve at least 10 different types of Numerical
problems daily.
2)
Learn all formulas thoroughly
and practice them by writing on notebooks daily.
3)
Identify important chapters of this
subject from which 2 to 3 questions are asked in NEET every year, prepare them
first. Chapters like Kinematics,
Gravitation, Thermodynamics, Sound & Waves, Electrostatics, Magnetism,
Optics and Modern Physics including Semiconductor, Atom & Nuclei and Dual
Nature of Radiation are important ones.
4)
Students who are weak in Mathematics
should prepare Modern Physics first in which less calculation is required and
more theoretical questions are asked. Formulas can be directly applied in the numerical
of these chapters.
5)
Solve previous 10 year question
papers which will give you an idea about the pattern of
questions asked in AIPMT earlier and NEET now. Some questions are repeated too.
6)
Cover all important topics from
NCERT books. You can also take help from reference
books for clearing doubts.
In NEET, you need to answer 180 questions in 180 minutes.
Hence, mostly those questions are asked in Physics which can be answered in a
minute. Some can consume extra time but those are for teasing extraordinary
students. If your basic concepts are clear and you have learned all formulas, can
easily secure over 100 Marks in Physics. Hence, from today onwards
start investing more time in Physics, hard work will reap you good rewards.
