How to Pass in Physics in CBSE Class 12 Board Exam?

Physics is one of the most challenging subjects for students appearing in the Class 12 Board Exams or different competitive exams. Students who are weaker in Mathematics often face difficulty in Physics. Regular practice is the only way, by virtue of which one can succeed in Physics. In the past few years, many students have failed in Physics. How to pass in Physics in CBSE Class 12 Board Exam? In this article, we will find the answer to this question.

How to Pass in Physics in CBSE Class 12 Board Exam?  

In CBSE, a student needs to secure 23 marks out of 70 to pass in Physics. This article is only for those who have not completed their syllabus thoroughly and their Class 12 Board Exam is also not far away.  

  • Students who are weaker in Mathematics should try to cover chapters like Semiconductor, Atoms, Nuclei, Dual nature of radiation and EM Waves first; which carry approx. 23 marks together  
  • Optics carries 14 marks, and it should be given special attention along with chapters mentioned above 
  • Current and Electricity is also an easier chapter and carries approx. 7 marks  
  • Solve previous 10-year question papers – it can easily propel your marks above 30. Questions are frequently repeated by the CBSE. By solving PYQs you also get fair idea about important topics and questions for the board exam 
  • Numericals carry close to 15 marks hence if you are weak in them then it is better to avoid them at the last moment

  • Magnetic Properties of Materials 
  • Faraday’s Law, Lenz’s Law, Eddy Currents, Self and Mutual Induction 
  • AC Generator (5 Marks), Transformers (5 Marks)  
  • Learn Wavelength, Production, Detection and Uses of different EM Waves  
  • Total internal reflection, Lens maker’s formula, Microscope, Telescope 
  • Wavefront, Huygen's Principle, Interference, Young’s double slit experiment, Diffraction  
  • Photoelectric effect, Einstein’s photoelectric equation-particle nature of light, wave nature of particles, de-Broglie relation 
  • Alpha-particle scattering and Rutherford’s Nuclear Model of Atom, Bohr Model of H-atom 
  • Binding energy, Mass defect, nuclear fission, nuclear fusion

      Two months are enough to secure at least passing marks in board exams. Solve last 10 year question papers. Focus on revision to avoid forgetting learned chapters. If you are finding NCERT difficult, prepare important topics through notes. Solve sample papers regularly to feel confident and to increase your speed.

      Don't lose hope, you will get good marks, provided you study well from now. If you find numericals difficult, leave them for now. Start from modern Physics. Optics, Semiconductor, Current and Electricity, Atom and Nuclei are easier but important chapters. Learn chapters in which you are comfortable. Solve previous year papers and sample papers and you will start feeling confident.

      Syed, if you want to complete these chapters in a single day then you need to study these from notes or it is almost a very huge task to complete these chapters from NCERT in a single day. And these two carry 14 marks so you need to prepare them well too.

      For getting 30 or more, complete optics and modern physics first then look for current and electricity. These are easier but very important ones.

    I am giving physics improvement exam this year along with maths and English. I got 88 in english, 44in maths and 58 in physics last year. I only wanted to fill for maths as I got less marks in as you may know last years question paper was a total blunder, but my sister forced me to fill physics also. I have improved and practiced my maths a lot but its a different case for physics. I just need to get the passing marks in physics though last years marks are not that great but still.       Now when you don't have enough time, it is wise to prepare NCERT topics through notes. If you are not good in numericals, focus on Optics and Modern Physics. Go through last 10 year question papers.

      Leave it and focus more on Modern Physics. Wave Optics is vast and will consume time. Though you can prepare selective topics from it which have been mentioned above.

      Dual nature of matter should be understood entirely through notes as you don't have enough time. In EM waves, wavelength and frequency along with uses of waves should be learnt.

      It is a big but bit easier and important chapter. Focus on topics like diode, rectifier, zener diode, LED, Transistor as amplifier and switch, Logic gates, photodiode, solar cell

      You have covered enough chapters just revise them now. Don't learn new chapters and topics as you don't have enough time. You can leave numericals and derivations now. Focus on learned chapters only.

    Sir I have done modern physics from arihant chapter wise solved papers book. And also I have practiced gauss's theorem, biot- savart's law, krichoff's rules, potentiometer, meter bridge, ac generator, transformer, and cyclotron. Out of all these atoms and nucleli is weak for me. Will I still pass even if atoms and nuclei is weak but all the other topics I've mentioned above is thorough? Please comment asap sir!

      Prepare Optics and Modern Physics well. If you understand topics from notes comfortably then stick with it. Solve previous year papers and sample papers to get idea of Application based and HOTS questions which are frequently asked nowadays. Keep revising learned topics.
