After first round of
counselling for MBBS course several
Medical seats under state quota for ST (Scheduled Tribe) category candidates
remained vacant in Jharkhand. JCECEB conducted
counselling in the state based on AIPMT
2014 result. The number of ST candidates from Jharkhand qualifying in AIPMT
was very less this year.
Hence majority of reserved Medical seats for ST candidates remained vacant in the state. Will Jharkhand conduct state Medical entrance exam from 2015? Many medical aspirants have started asking this question now. But the state government has not said anything on this matter yet.

After the dismissal of NEET, CBSE had requested all Indian
states to become member of AIPMT. Some states accepted this proposal and
Jharkhand was one of those states. Last year JCECEB and state government declared that admission in different Medical Colleges of Jharkhand will be
done based on AIPMT result. JCECEB conducts different competitive examinations
in the state. Jharkhand government announced that based on the result of AIPMT
2014, JCECEB will only conduct counselling and fill MBBS seats in different
Medical Colleges of state.
In three Medical
Colleges of Jharkhand i.e. RIMS of
Ranchi, MGM Medical College of
Jamshedpur and PMCH of Dhanbad 76
MBBS seats were available for the ST category candidates. But JCECEB
managed to fill only 16 Medical seats during first counselling while 60 seats
remained vacant. ST candidates must get 40%
marks in AIPMT in order to qualify in the Medical entrance exam. Due to
lack of eligible ST candidates majority of Medical seats remained vacant after
first round of counselling.

Before 2013 JCECEB (Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board) used to
conduct Medical entrance exam in Jharkhand. Now after looking at the number of
vacant seats in different Medical Colleges, state government may decide to
rollback its decision of becoming member of AIPMT. In that scenario, Jharkhand will conduct state Medical entrance exam from 2015.
Neither JCECEB nor state government has uttered anything on this issue but
students must start preparing themselves for both AIPMT and state Medical
entrance exam.
