How to take admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya?
Jawahar Navodaya
Vidyalayas are the popular government educational institutions in India. In
1986, Indian government took a bold decision to setup institutions like JNV
(Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya) in every district of the country. Though
government has yet not succeeded in its objective completely but today
approximately 583 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are running in the 7 Union
Territories and 28 different states of the country. These Navodaya Vidyalayas
are funded and run by the Indian government through an independent educational
body Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
How
to take admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya?
For taking admission in
different JNVs (Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas) students must appear in the entrance
exam called JNVST (Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test). JNVST is
conducted by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. In the entrance exam 100 questions
are asked and the duration of the exam is two hours. Only students reading in
class 5 in the current academic session can appear in JNVST. Students who have
appeared in JNVST earlier are not allowed to sit in this entrance exam again.
Based on the performance
in JNVST students are admitted in class 6 in different Jawahar Navodaya
Vidyalayas. From class 6 to 8 students are taught in the regional language or in
the mother tongue. From class 9 onwards, subjects like Science and Mathematics
are taught in English. Students of JNVs reading in class 10 and 12 appear in
the CBSE board examination.
The most admirable
feature of JNV (Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya) is that from education to
facilities like lodging and boarding are absolutely free of cost here. In
addition to it study materials and uniforms are also provided to students
without charging any fees. Students from class 9 to 12 are charged only 200
Rupees per month. Girls, Physically handicapped students, SC or ST category
students and those belonging from BPL (Below Poverty Line) families are
exempted from these fees.
