Review Petition in Supreme Court for NEET

On 18 July 2013, a bench of three judges headed by former chief justice of Supreme Court of India Altmas Kabir dismissed NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) and called it unconstitutional. The bench dismissed NEET which was proposed by MCI (Medical Council of India) and told that it interferes with the constitutional rights of State and private Medical colleges of India. NEET was conducted by CBSE this year.

Interestingly it was for the first time when single Medical entrance examination was conducted in India in the form of NEET. But after the decision of Supreme Court all State and private Medical Colleges of India are free to conduct their own examinations from 2014. More than 115 cases were filed against NEET from different states and private Medical colleges.

MCI proposed NEET to save money, time and reduce pressure from the shoulders of students. Today many private Medical colleges are taking lakhs and lakhs of donation on the name of admission. NEET was brought to control corruption in Medical education.

An NGO has filed review petition in the Supreme Court of India for NEET. The former chief justice has retired now. And there is a glimmer of hope for the implementation of NEET in the country. After all, the destiny of more than eight Lakh Medical students is depending on this verdict of Supreme Court of India.
