Pattern of KVPY 2020



Students having interest in basic Science can apply for KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana). In 100 cities like Delhi, Jamshedpur, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Lucknow, Nagpur, Vadodara, Varanasi, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Kochi, Ranchi, Jaipur, etc. students can appear in the online version of KVPY aptitude test 2020. It is important to note that KVPY 2020 will be conducted online only. The fellowships number is not limited in KVPY. And every student who clears this exam gets fellowship. 
  
Eligibility for KVPY
Stream SA: Those students who are studying in class 11 in the Science stream and have secured a minimum of 80% marks in aggregate in Science and Mathematics in class 10 board exam can apply for KVPY. SC and ST students need to secure 70% aggregate marks in Science and Mathematics in class 10 board exam to become eligible for this exam.

Stream SX:  Those students who are studying in class 12 (Science Stream) in the academic year 2020-21 and have secured at least 80% marks in aggregate in Science and Mathematics in class 10 board exam can apply for KVPY. SC and ST students must secure at least 70 % marks to become eligible.


Stream SB: Students studying in the first year of basic Science undergraduates (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics) during the academic year 2020-21 and have secured at least 60% marks in aggregate in Science and Mathematics in class 12 board exam can apply for KVPY. SC and ST candidates need to secure only 50% marks to become eligible for this exam.

Note: Students selected for Stream SA and SX must secure at least 60% marks (50% for SC and ST) in aggregate in Mathematics and Science in class 12 board exam to get fellowship. 

Students selected for Stream SB must obtain a minimum of 60% marks (50% marks for SC and ST) in the final exam of first year of graduation to get fellowships. 

Selection Process
For selection, a committee is created in Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru which shortlists applications. Based on aptitude test students are called for an interview. Final selection in KVPY is done based on the performance in aptitude test and interview.

Benefits of KVPY
Selected students in KVPY get 5000 Rupees per month during three years of graduation and receive an annual contingency grant of 20,000 Rupees. During two years of Masters Course selected students receive 7000 Rupees per month and an annual contingency grant of 28,000 Rupees

Fellowship Renewal
For annual fellowship renewal students need to maintain better academic record. They must secure at least 60% marks in each academic year. If they fail to do so then benefits of fellowship is forfeited. If they improve their performance and secure 60% marks in the next academic year then benefits of fellowship is once again renewed. 

History of KVPY
KVPY was started by the central government of India in the year 1999. The motto behind it was to encourage students towards making career in the research field in the basic Science and help them financially. In KVPY students studying in class 11, 12 and first year of graduation are selected. Students continue to receive money under fellowship up to Pre-PHD level.
